Aiming at the practical and timeless support of the artistic community of Cyprus, Almyra Hotel in collaboration with isnotgallery, hosts "Metamorphosis", a group exhibition of contemporary art from July 27 to September 2, 2024.
How well known or unknown is the emblematic building that was introduced to us in the 1970s as Paphos Beach Hotel and then, in the early first decade of 2000, as Almyra Hotel? During the years of its transformation, the building changed, but at the same time, it kept solid the idea that created it. Hospitality!
Isnotgallery’s new group exhibition ‘Metamorphosis’ is attentive to and in conversation with the grounds of the emblematic Almyra Hotel in Paphos. This exhibition is an attempt to redefine the relationship of modern art to architectural emblems of Almyra’s ilk. The spaces, the shadows, the windows that let in the light, the structural elements, all cohabit harmoniously with a series of new drawings, sculptures, paintings and works of contemporary art, all playfully interacting with one another.
The curator of the exhibition, Andros Efstathiou, metamorphoses the grounds of the hotel, conducts a dialogue with its spaces. By installing works of visual art by exceptional artists, he redefines the relationship between publicly displayed art and communal areas. In recent years Andros Efstathiou has been attempting to combine the individual and the collective, the private and the public, showing how these different modes of expression can coexist, and how one sometimes subsumes the other.
The participating artists: Barnabe, Mariella Bilitsa, Andros Efstathiou, Sofia Fotiadou Theano Giannezi, Stavros Kikas, George Lappas, Charoula Nikolaidou, Christina Papaioannou, Cacao Rocks, Andreas Skoufaris, Constantinos Stefanou, Panikos Tembriotis, Elena Tsigaridou, Antonis Tziarides
Curator: Andros Efstathiou
Opening: 27 July at 20:00
Duration: July 27 – September 2, 2024
The partnership of Almyra Hotel with isnotgallery confirms, on one hand, the continuous and uninterrupted support of the hotel to the artistic community of Cyprus and, on the other hand, the desire of the organizers to highlight the artists they represent, creating a broader, more constructive and direct channel of communication with society.
It is noted that over time, the hotel transforms its facilities into a platform for artists and works of contemporary art, playing an active role in the cultural scene of Paphos, since apart from being a holiday resort, it also functions as a meeting point and connection center for all its guests.
