It can be a little tricky navigating a February escape in Europe. The snow is starting to melt on many of the continent's glitziest ski resorts, yet the summer feels so far away, as seasonal spots everywhere from Greece to France ready themselves for the springtime influx. But where is hot in Europe in February? It's a popular time of the year for long-haul, bucket-list adventures as places like Thailand and the Maldives sizzle, but finding somewhere to top up on the vitamin D, a little closer to home, is a trickier tale. Luckily, a handful of southern spots do start to warm up as early as February, and resorts cater to the off-season trickle of tourists by opening their doors year-round. Here, we round up the best places where it's hot in Europe in February – or at least warmer than our shores, from Spanish seaside provinces to Mediterranean islands.
Paphos
Average February high temperature: 17°C
Ancient necropolises, historic monasteries and plenty of vineyards between – there’s so much more to the Cypriot city of Paphos than its surrounding beaches. That said, it’s not unusual for temperatures to climb into the early 20s towards the end of the month, so pack the swimmers just in case.
Where to stay: Almyra is a 187-room, family-run and family-friendly resort inspired by Aphrodite. Windows flood communal areas with natural light, while finishes of natural fabrics and Carrara marble create a calming space that’ll have you embracing the art of R&R immediately.
